Our Story
According to Trish:
Love at first sight? For me, not so much. When Ty and I first started talking, he'd sent me a message through an online dating site we were both members of. I sent him back a message saying that in order to get me to talk to him, he owed me a picture of himself. We started chatting from there. For the most part, I thought he was a nice guy who was totally lucky to own a MINI Cooper. Other than that, I really wasn't interested.
But anyone who knows Ty knows that when he sets his mind to something, he'll accomplish it. (I think the stubborn streak runs in the family.) That boy chased me all through the summer, dogging me with e-mails and literally driving me nuts. A few months later, I actually started to take him seriously and we really began talking. I still had no real interest in him, but our conversations were about everything and nothing, and they were great.
Finally in October, he convinced me to hang out with him and meet him for the first time. We went to a billiards place downtown, along with his sister, Tiffany, and her boyfriend. The evening wasn't exactly an incredible success: I almost whacked Tiff in the face with my pool cue, and Ty never uttered more than three words to me all night.
Awkward as it was, we tried again a few more times, and eventually we started figuring each other out. Ty got over his shyness, and suddenly we were having conversations that lasted well into the night. (Try explaining that to your roommate, when you get home at 4:30 in the morning!)
On October 17th, 2006, Ty "officially" asked me to be his girlfriend. Online, of course. But I made him promise that the first time he said "I love you," it had to be in person. It was.
According to Ty:
I didn't even know that I had to specifically ask her to be my girlfriend, actually. I thought that just happened somehow -- otherwise it might have occurred earlier!
So anyway, with only a few exceptions, Trish and I have hung out every single day since then. At first Trish came to my parents house every evening and worked on her homework. Then I got an apartment, where she came every evening and worked on her homework. Finally in July of 2007, I bought a condo, where we live now.
We never really went on "dates" very much, though we did dine out quite a bit at first. Usually we tended to just sit around talking endlessly -- and still do. As Trish mentioned above, we've had conversations that lasted much too long in to the night.
These days we still often spend time having long conversations, about all sorts of topics -- sometimes of a slightly nerdy nature. We also like to watch movies from time to time (especially documentaries) and read books out loud to each other.
I'm immensely excited that Trish chose to join my life and to stay with me forever. We certainly have many great years of conversation and events to look forward to.
